swami terrific,
Just got the 3000 a few days ago and I must say it is great. I’m not a tour player so I don’t need all the detail specifics they do, but wanted an accurate, economical and easy-to-use unit to assist in my club selection. The 3000 is all that and more….no downloads, no contracts, and all the courses I could possibly need. Helped me save 3-5 strokes in my round today. Highly recommend this product and the Izzo folks are helpful and available for your questions! P.s. If you wear Uv protection sunglasses…there is a color variation that will appear on the screen so don’t panic.

|I love the Swami 3000!,
I have used this little gem a few times already on three different courses. Every time it functioned perfectly, just press the on button and a few seconds later the yardage for hole 1 at the course you are at will be displayed.
There is no delay or lag with this device, I usually walk but I have taken this in a cart and the readout was instantly changing its displayed yardage as we were cruising down the fairway. The display finally settled to a fixed yardage less then a second after the cart stopped. No waiting, no delay, just get to your ball, look at the display, and grab the right club with the assurance that you know exactly how hard to swing.
Simplicity at its most basic. There’s no buttons to push, no tiny numbers to squint at, and no unnecessary score keeping or shot recording. There’s no downloading needed, no annual fee, and no hidden costs to unlock “Pro” features.
The 3000 has the same form factor and button controls as the previous 1500 model allowing for the use of older accessories and the same simple easy to use interface. Along with a power button there is a “FCB” button for switching yardage from the front of the green to the center or to the back, and two other buttons for scrolling through the holes.
There is no need for any data entry or course set up, only an occasional arrow up key to select the next hole, the Swami 3000 usually does this automatically.
There is only one down side to this simplistic route for Golf GPS: The Swami 3000 ONLY shows distances in a straight line from where you are to the green. This is only an issue with dog legs, as the course will read 560 yards the Swami 3000 might read 378 yards. So the Swami does NOT show distances centerline of fairway. Other more expensive GPS that cost 3 to 4 times more will show various yardages to hazards and bends in the fairway.
The service and technology this device uses is the most advanced there is. No other Golf GPS device can have a more accurate reading. The best any other device can do is match this device in accuracy as it too would be using the same tech.
Go to Izzo’s website for information on what course maps are already available. In the future when newer courses are created in your area, you can request Swami to obtain the maps for their database. Then you’ll have to set up an account and download the map just like you would for the Swami 1500.
In the end; this very inexpensive yet extremely helpful device gives the golfer a remarkable advantage with approach shots and defining accuracy.

|Good for the Price,
Startup can be a bit finicky. It usually takes two or three tries to lock onto a course. It would be nice if it could save some state information, like my driving GPS, so it does not have to acquire satellites from scratch every time.
Accuracy seems to be about +/- 5 yards. I can see my distance changing by that much while I am standing still. Course-mapping may be a little off, as well. When I walk up to the front of a green, the Front measurement is rarely zero; but the error is less than 10 yards.
I don’t completely trust the readings, yet. I prefer using my laser rangefinder for approach shots. However, it is useful for blind approaches, and for quickie club selection for lay-ups.
Battery life is more than adequate. No problems lasting through a 4-5 hour round.
The Swami is pretty good considering it costs not much more than a round of golf. It is way better than pacing and finding yardage markers. But, it is less reliable than laser rangefinder.
I’ve never used any other golf GPS, so cannot really compare. But, I would purchase Swami again. It is a useful tool for the price.
