Amazon.com Product Description Looking to improve your course management skills? Turn to the uPro golf GPS system, which employs state-of-the-art GPS, aerial, and satellite technology to accurately render the details of thousands of golf courses. The uPro starts by providing the avid golfer with aerial and satellite photographs of the golf course, so you can see what the hole looks like before you play it. At the same time, the unit's built-in GPS system clearly locates the golf course hazards and flagstick, so you know what you're up against at any moment. With each glance at the 2.2-inch, high-resolution color screen, you can see a different view of the fairway, check out the upcoming sand traps and water hazards, or receive a distance marker that helps you select the correct club length. Even more impressive, the uPro's SmartView technology anticipates the hazards that you'll face on your next shot, so you can plan accordingly based on the strengths of your game. Don't want to carry water on your second shot? The SmartView technology's dynamically generated "viewports" will tell you which area of the fairway or rough will provide a water-free path.
The uPro offers aerial and satellite photographs of thousands of golf courses. |
The easy-to-comprehend user-interface is crisp and intuitive. | The uPro is remarkably easy to carry, with a sleek and unobtrusive design that fits in a pocket or belt holder without interfering with your natural golf swing. In addition, the unit has the quickest startup time of any golf GPS system, with a super-fast GPS locking system. And thanks to the high GPS sensitivity, the uPro remains locked even under the most extreme conditions. The uPro offers two basic modes for golf course downloads. In Basic mode, the uPro shows the distance to the front and back of all hazards and differentiates the type of hazards. Each hazard is automatically displayed in sequential order based on the current user position, and then is updated as the user moves throughout the hole. Basic mode also provides a green view, with large, easy-to-read numbers that depict the distance to the front, center, and back of the green. In Pro mode, meanwhile, the device offers a video flyover that lets the user see the layout of the hole from an aerial perspective. From the center of the green, users can see the 100-, 150-, and 200-yard markers. The Pro mode also offers scale-accurate measurements that are used to measure to and from any point on the golf course, even from the outskirts of the rough. The uPro is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and Mac OS X v10.4 or later (Windows 2000 is the oldest version of Windows that is compatible with the uPro). However, note that the uPro does not require any additional software to connect with the uPro servers. Instead, users can easily download golf courses at uPro's web site. Once you're online, the web site gives the user a list of all golf courses in the U.S.--in your choice of Basic or Pro mode--on a click-and-buy basis. The unit's GPS technology also automatically determines which courses are nearby. And as an add-on software download, the device can accept voice commands to make menu navigation virtually hands-free. The uPro comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, a wall adapter, a USB cable, and a single free Pro mode download of any golf course. The device comes with a six-month warranty.

Good product, a few quirks August 29, 2010 donh I bought the uPro earlier this year and am generally please with it. Inside 100 yards it is very helpful, especially when you find yourself in a less than ideal situation.
The flyovers in Pro Mode are not terribly useful - I echo the comments of many who have asserted that position.
I had a "SD memory error" screen come up. I fixed it in this manner:
followed the user manual directions for formatting the SD card.
powered off, removed battery and SD card
placed battery in unit and turned on
powered off
removed battery
replaced battery and SD card
After powering up, the uPro worked fine and synched.
I would recommend this product to others.
Waste of time for Canadians August 25, 2010 Sheldon Denesiuk (Calgary Alberta Canada) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the top of the line skycaddie for the wife at the same time as I bought this for myself. I have to end up using her skycaddie or my iphone app golfshot gps because the Upro has so few alberta and BC courses available to it. I've been waiting for over a year and see some courses with 600 requests for someone to map it (Kananaskis for example) yet they don't have anyone to map them. I like the features but frankly feel like I wasted the $500 it cost at the time.
I find both the wife's Skycaddie and Golfshot GPS ap to have the courses I play at while Skycaddie only has about 60% of them. I would look elsewhere.
uPro--Great Buy August 23, 2010 GRick This purchase was a great buy--took advantage of the Callaway $100 rebate so the price was really low for a new GPS. Unit works fine although the download program is a little difficult to manage. I have a Bushnell GPS also and it is easier to download courses, but there's also a yearly fee. I had difficulty getting the download system to work with my desktop (laptop worked fine), but now I know the procedure so it's ok. The uPro does not have additional "usage" costs unless you want the extras--which are really not required. The unit is compact and works fine--but you still have to hit the shot! Bummer!
Not a bad 1 trick pony August 8, 2010 Daniel Holland Ive used it for about a month.
Pros:Cool previews, accurate, measure feature rocks, good in any light even in wet siuations, Im glad to have it in my set up.
Cons:Screen is a little small,my home course has some holes reversed, too expensive for a one use toy, A Droid we a free golf app would have been wiser.
Upgraded --and now unbeatable! August 6, 2010 Tech Albritton (NY, NY) I agonized for months over which golf GPS unit to get, all having their advantages and disadvantages. I finally decided to go for the Callaway uPro with its smaller, lighter size and ProMode real course views and distance measurements from point to any point on the hole (at an extra cost per course). I wished that it had score and statistical record-keeping capability and a virtual view of the green, and not just front, center and back numbers, in the BasicMode (which is free to download.) Still, without these I have been extremely pleased with the uPro.
So when I logged on today to add a course, I see that my wishes have been granted, in the upgrade to the new 4.0 software and the $20 score keeper upgrade now available. After installing these upgrades, this baby is as close to perfect as I can imagine. GO FOR IT!!!
